Pollinator populations (bees, moths, birds and bats) continue to decline as habitat loss brought on by human encroachment, use of pesticides and climate change grows. Planting a butterfly garden with milkweed and other wildflowers will attract pollinators and provide food and shelter for migrating Monarchs and other pollinator species.
Goals:
Provide food and shelter for a variety of pollinator species (bees, moths, birds, bats) through the development of a butterfly garden.
Raise awareness of the endangered status of the Monarch butterfly and the need for increased plantings of native milkweed (Asclepias incarnata, Asclepias tuberosa or Asclepias humistrata) and other native plants to support this species, increase knowledge of the importance of pollinators (bees, moths, birds, bats) and their positive impact on the environment and encourage support of Chase’s conservation efforts through new education initiatives.
Involve the public through education, classroom activities, butterfly releases and home butterfly rearing kits.
